Report: Apple iPhone 4G Spotted

Either way, it's not how Apple usually handles debuts of such products. But according to reports burning up the blogosphere since Saturday, an iPhone 4G model is said to have been located at a bar in San Jose, tucked inside of an iPhone 3G case.

Tech blog Engadget on Saturday posted what it says are photos and details of the new iPhone, which was discovered "in the wild" -- that is, reportedly left behind at a bar -- over the weekend.

According to the report, Engadget was able to confirm certain details about the new device, such as a front-facing camera and 80 GB of storage. "It's not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way itnto the world, but it's still a compelling design, no matter how you look at it," wrote Engadget's Joshua Topolsky.

A number of other tech bloggers weighed in over the weekend on the supposed legitimacy of the photos, with many pointing out that the pictures posted by Engadget do appear similar to photographs said to be of Apple's next-generation iPhone, which have been circulating for some weeks.

Apple has yet to comment on the rumored iPhone 4G bar find.

In March, speculation again began on Apple's long-hinted-at new iPhone, which will reportedly be an iPhone that can run on Verizon's 3G network and that will end AT&T's iPhone carrier exclusivity in the U.S.

Apple has released new versions of iPhone every year since its 2007 launch.
