Talend Launches Next-Gen Cloud Data Integration Toolset

New Pipeline Designer software eases the task of developing data workflows between on-premises, hybrid and cloud systems.

Big data software developer Talend debuted a new web-based graphical design tool Tuesday for building data pipelines used to view and transform batch, live and streaming data.

The new Pipeline Designer software is an addition to Talend Cloud, the developer's integration Platform-as-a-Service system – all released as part of the vendor's Spring '19 release.

Pipeline Designer targets data engineers and software developers who are charged with designing pipelines that integrate data across hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud environments, developing links between cloud services such as Amazon Web Services, Azure and Snowflake Computing and with on-premises databases and other data sources.

"There's a bigger need for data integration capabilities and things are moving to real time," said Ray Christopher, Talend product marketing manager, in an interview with CRN. "And customers really want cloud-first."

Talend works with VARs such as Abilis Solutions and Progaia IT Solutions, IT service providers and consultants like Isiway and Cognizant, and systems integrators such as Agilite and CSC.

The Pipeline Designer environment provides developers, data engineers and analysts with the means to design workflows that move structured and unstructured data from a cloud application such as Salesforce.com, an on-premises database, or the Kafka data streaming application into a cloud-based repository such as AWS S3 or Redshift, Azure SQL Database or Snowflake Computing.

"Customers want to get to the cloud data warehouse more quickly," said Rob Cornell, Talend's head of cloud alliances, in an interview.

Pipeline Designer offers live preview and schema-on-read capabilities. Because the processing and computing layer is de-coupled from the pipeline design, workflows can more easily scale to match the cloud or on-premises systems being used, according to the company.

Talend Spring '19 is available now and subscribers will have access to Pipeline Designer as part of their cloud subscription.

The Pipeline Designer announcement follows several moves by Talend in recent months to expand the breadth of its data quality and data integrity offerings. Late last year Talend acquired Stitch, a developer of self-service data loading software, while in February the company struck an alliance with RapidMiner to integrate the Talend Data Fabric and Talend Stitch Data Loader with RapidMiner Server and RapidMiner AI Cloud to operationalize data science and artificial intelligence tasks.
