New England Patriots President: Augmented Reality Will Play 'A Big Part' At Gillette Stadium

New England Patriots President Jonathan Kraft says Patriots fans should expect more augmented reality features inside Gillette Stadium in the near future that will enhance the in-game experience.

’We believe augmented reality is going to be a big part of the in game experience,’ said Kraft, during the 2016 Patriots Mobility Summit at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., Wednesday.

Kraft said the Patriots, one of the NFL’s most tech-savvy teams, plans to utilize augmented reality through phones or glasses to allow fans to view things such as where the first-down marker is or to identify the players on the field.

’[You can] look through the phone or glasses and see the 22 players on the field and above them a little cloud seeing who that player is and letting you know anything pertinent you want to about them,’ said Kraft.

Kraft also boasted about how Extreme Networks’, the official Wi-Fi and analytics provider for the Patriots as well as the NFL, networking abilities outpaced competitors.

Extreme CEO Ed Meyercord talked to CRN about how the Patriots are always ahead of the curve in regard to implementing the best network technologies inside their stadium.

’The Patriots were the first to have a website, the first team to do video streaming – they have a website translated to Chinese … they have 230 fan clubs in 30 countries,’ said Meyercord. ’They’re also leading the league in terms of the globalization of the NFL.’
