Google’s New Service Aims To Accelerate Analytics Projects Inside BigQuery

Google Cloud’s new Data Transfer Service lets organizations transfer data from third-party sources into its BigQuery cloud data warehouse. The cloud provider has partnered with Fivetran to bring it to market.

A new service makes it easier to transfer data from third-party sources into Google’s BigQuery cloud data warehouse. The service promises to accelerate analytics projects by reducing the setup and maintenance overhead traditionally incurred when centralizing disparate data sources. Logan Welley, strategic alliances at Fivetran, Google’s launch partner for the service, discussed the details in an interview with CRNtv.

Tell us about Fivetran. Why are you a great partner for this new service?

Fivetran is a zero-replication data pipeline tool and we help companies get access to data sources like Salesforce and Marketo and Oracle and load that data into cloud data warehouses like BigQuery.

Customers previously would have to connect their Fivetran account to the data warehouse. Then, through that, they would add the data sources and load the data sources into something like BigQuery. Now, they get to skip that process entirely. They stay immediately inside the GCP (Google Cloud Platform) interface and they can connect all their data sources without even leaving.

How do you maintain security throughout the process?

At the end of the day we all know we are dealing with data and there’s sometimes a lot of security questions that come up with that. Fivetran takes security incredibly seriously. All of the data in our system is hard deleted. We do not store any data inside Fivetran. This has enabled us to be SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 compliant. We are also GDPR compliant and HIPAA compliant as well.

Why is this service key for enterprises today?

At the end of the day, Google’s platform is built for clients who want to be in the cloud. We have a cloud-focused mentality and we fit really, really well inside the GCP story by enabling all of our clients to have their data in the cloud to power deep analytics. That ultimately has been where we’ve seen the biggest growth with GCP: powering the majority of enterprises and enabling them to have a cloud-focused analytics approach.

Are there any opportunities for Google’s partners with the new Data Transfer Service?

We are in SaaS alignment program and partner program with Google. So, at the end of the day, we are here to deliver value and awesome customer experiences. Fivetran was already doing that with GCP and BigQuery customers around the world. But now with this integrated offering our team is able to get into the trenches and provide value to customers that ultimately delivers speed to value and awesome customer experiences. So, our team is devoted to working with GCP reps across the world to ultimately get customers on-boarded and using the GCP platform for deeper analytics.
