Intel Offers $6 Million In Donations To Local Coronavirus Relief Efforts

The announcement of donations for communities where Intel has a significant presence comes after the semiconductor giant previously announced that it was donating $1 million to the International Red Cross and 1 million pieces of personal protective equipment to health-care workers.

Intel is expanding its charitable giving for coronavirus relief efforts and offering $6 million to local organizations and foundations in communities where the chipmaker has a significant presence.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said Thursday that it will donate $4 million to communication foundations and organizations focused on food security, shelter, medical equipment and small-business support. The company is also offering to match $2 million in donations from employees to food banks, school districts and children's hospitals.

The news comes after the semiconductor giant previously announced that it was donating $1 million to the International Red Cross and 1 million pieces of personal protective equipment to health-care workers.

For the new $6 million Intel is allocating for donations, the company is targeting organizations and foundations in Arizona, California, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Oregon and Texas within the U.S. Abroad, targeted areas include Costa Rica, India, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico and Vietnam.

The new allocation is coming from the Intel Foundation, the company's charitable giving arm that focuses on promoting STEM education, skills-based volunteering, matching donations from employees and rebuilding communities impacted by natural disasters.

"The Intel Foundation is committed to improving lives around the world and supporting communities during global crises and natural disasters," the company said in a statement.
