CyrusOne And CEO Donate $300K For Coronavirus Relief

‘In this unprecedented moment, we all need to come together across the world to help people in need,’ says CyrusOne’s president and CEO, Tesh Durvasula.

The $1 billion data center colocation specialist is donating $250,000 on behalf of its employees to various U.S.-based food assistance agencies as well as charities in Europe to aid communities who have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, CyrusOne’s president and CEO Tesh Durvasula will personally donate $50,000 on top of the company’s $250,000 to Feeding America, Member Food Bank, the North Texas Foodbank and European-based charities in order to help fund meals for people in need.

“In this unprecedented moment, we all need to come together across the world to help people in need,” said Durvasula in a statement. “Our donation, on behalf of all CyrusOne team members, helps provide food and resources at a time of intense hardship. I am so proud of how passionately our CyrusOne family in the United States and Europe have responded to help our local communities in Texas and around the world.”

CyrusOne, which made CRN’s 50 Hottest Data Center Companies In 2020 list, operates nearly 50 data centers across the U.S., Europe and Asia, and is currently constructing a massive data center in Silicon Valley.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the IT world hard with many vendors projecting millions in revenue losses due to COVID-19 while many huge conferences have been canceled or changed into virtual events.

In a statement, Lauren Biedron, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America, said CyrusOne’s donations will help people who may not know where they will find their next meal. “Their generous donation will help people hardest hit by this pandemic,” she said.

Dallas-based CyrusOne named Durvasula as its interim president and CEO after Gary Wojtaszek announced his resignation in February after nine years of running the company. Durvasula was previously president of CyrusOne’s European business.

For the total year 2019, CyrusOne generated $981 million in sales, up nearly 20 percent year over year. The company expects to generate between $1.02 billion to $1.06 billion in revenue in 2020 thanks to massive growth recently from hyperscale players like Amazon, Microsoft and Google who are spending billions each year on building new and equipping data centers.

CyrusOne is a real estate investment trust that invests in carrier-neutral data centers and provides colocation services, offering mission-critical data centers that protects its 1,000 customers including more than 200 Fortune 1,000 companies.
