CES 2014: Internet of Everything, Tablets Dominate Show
Smart devices and tablets took center stage at the2014 Consumer Electronics Showthis week, with vendors from Cisco to Samsung heralding both new products and company agendas.
Cisco CEO John Chambers kept the focus on the Internet of Everything, telling CRN it has the potential of earning at least $14.4 trillion for private sector businesses. Cisco also introduced the latest cloud-based version of Videoscape, Cisco's TV services delivery platform for solution providers.
Samsung and Panasonic both introduced enterprise-focused tablets. Samsung debuted the 12.2-inch Galaxy NotePro, and Panasonic revealed the 7-inch Toughpad FZ-M1, a tablet-PC running Windows 8.1 Pro.
Intel took its platform in a new direction, focusing on Edison, a new microprocessor designed for wearable and smart devices. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich showed off several prototypes running the system-on-a-chip, including a smart baby onesie and earbuds containing health-monitoring sensors. The earbuds track biometric and fitness data. Krzanich called the possibilities with Edison "endless."
