HP Unveils The Spectre Folio To ‘Shatter The Mold’ Of Traditional PCs
HP Inc. on Monday announced a new notebook, the Spectre Folio, that the company is calling the world's first "leather convertible PC" with a 100-percent genuine leather covering around its exterior.
The company said the 2-in-1 notebook will cut across consumer and commercial PC categories, serving as an ideal device for both home and work.
The Spectre Folio also seeks to merge vintage design with the latest computing advances, with key specs including 18 hours of battery life and low-power, eighth-generation Intel processors that don't require a fan.
The notebook seeks to create a "new standard in what premium experiences mean for our customers, and ultimately the industry," said Alex Cho, president for HP's personal systems business, during an event to unveil the device in New York.
HP has "sought to shatter the mold of what a traditional PC is," Cho said.
The Spectre Folio offers a 13.3-inch FHD touch screen display—a 4K model will be available later this year—with durable Gorilla Glass. The notebook comes with a digital pen that is stored in a genuine leather pen holder.
The Spectre Folio can also be LTE-connected to allow it to be "always connected" for users, HP said.
The notebook will be configurable with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage, as well.
Cho said the Spectre Folio is intended to "change way the PC makes you feel," and is part of HP's larger ambition to design "devices that aren't simply functional, but are coveted."
The Spectre Folio will be available for pre-order today, and will roll out on Oct. 29 with a starting price of $1,299.99. The notebook will be available in "Cognac Brown" and "Bordeaux Burgundy" colors, with an ash-colored interior.
