Cisco's Chief Marketing Officer To Depart
Replacing Bostrom will be Blair Christie, most recently Cisco's senior vice president of global corporate communications. Christie will continue to report to Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers.
Bostrom's 14-year tenure at Cisco included the building of the Internet Business Solutions Group, and, as CMO, changing Cisco's logo and transforming the Cisco.com Web site. She was a co-leader of Cisco's Small Business Council, led Cisco's marketing transition toward architectures from products, and, in the worldwide government affairs role, looked for ways to bring Cisco business in line with social and economic priorities around the world, the company said in a statement.
Bostrom's reason for leaving Cisco was described as "to pursue new opportunities." According to Cisco, Bostrom will stay on temporarily in an advisory role.
"Sue has been a close colleague and an important member of our executive team during the nearly 14 years she has been at Cisco," Chambers said in the statement. "She has made significant contributions to the company and has built talented leadership teams across our consulting, marketing and government affairs communities. We are proud to have had Sue as part of the leadership team and support her decision to move forward in the next chapter of her career and life. We wish her the very best."
Christie will take over Cisco's central marketing organization, as well as the worldwide government affairs role, immediately, and she will also retain her previous responsibilities as head of global corporate communications.
"Cisco brings leading innovation to the transitions in our market right now, and I'm incredibly excited to help further the company's reputation as we continue to increase our value in the networked world," said Christie in a statement.
Before Bostrom, the most recent member of Cisco's top executive echelons to depart was Tony Bates, the former senior vice president, enterprise, commercial and small business. Bates in early October was confirmed as the new CEO of Skype.
