Mackintosh was named Extreme Networks’ vice president of worldwide channels in January 2016.

Gault said that Extreme Networks will be on the hunt for a channel leader that "recognizes the value of cloud and software-driven solutions and will work closely with partners to grow businesses together."

Extreme Networks in August closed its acquisition of Aerohive, the No. 2 leader in cloud managed wireless LAN services. The company first revealed plans to buy Aerohive Networks, its competitor, for $210 million in June. Extreme Networks said at the time that the deal would strengthen its leadership position across cloud management, wireless and edge networking, and SD-WAN.

The deal also increased Extreme Networks' recurring revenue, which now accounts for more than 25 percent of its business as subscription-based services and cloud become a big priority for the channel.

San Jose, Calif.-based Extreme Networks does 100 percent of its business through the channel today.

Prior to his appointment at Extreme Networks, Mackintosh worked for Cisco Systems for eight years in several roles, most recently serving as director of Software-as-a-Service and cloud sales for Cisco. He also led Cisco's distribution and small-business sales business unit for two years.
