Qualys To Acquire TotalCloud To Accelerate Cloud Security Push
The information security and compliance company says the planned acquisition will bring new technologies around creating cloud remediation workflows to the Qualys Cloud Platform.
Cybersecurity and compliance software company Qualys Monday unveiled an agreement to acquire cloud management platform startup TotalCloud in a move to bolster its cloud security offering.
Qualys said in a news release that the planned acquisition of TotalCloud will “further strengthen” the Qualys Cloud Platform, which provides visibility into every IT asset within an organization across on-premises, cloud, containers and endpoints. The offering provides a continuous assessment of an organization’s security and compliance posture, along with response capabilities such as threat prioritization and patching, Qualys said.

Qualys counts the three largest cloud platforms—Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud—as key partners.
Bangalore-based TotalCloud, which was founded in 2016, has developed a platform for management of cloud workflows and “no-code” automation.
The incorporation of TotalCloud’s technologies into the Qualys Cloud Platform will enable the creation of workflows for custom policies, which can be executed on demand as a way to simplify security and compliance work, Qualys said.
For instance, in a multi-cloud environment, workflows can be implemented by the drag-and-drop of component blocks in order to perform a compliance check, Qualys said.
The TotalCloud acquisition “will allow Qualys to bring visual cloud remediation workflow technology to the Qualys Cloud Platform,” said Sumedh Thakar, president and CEO of Qualys, in a news release.
Foster City, Calif.-based Qualys did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition agreement or say when the acquisition is expected to close.
TotalCloud founder Pradeep Kumar will be joining Qualys, though his new role was not specified.
CRN has reached out to Qualys to request more details.
Last week, Qualys unveiled a new collaboration with Red Hat, which involves Qualys providing a containerized cloud agent that can enable enhanced security for Red Hat OpenShift.
Thakar was named CEO of Qualys in April. Philippe Courtot, who had led Qualys for two decades, resigned as CEO in March for health reasons. Courtot, 76, died in June.
