EMC Hires Former Software CMO To Head Global Channel Marketing

Fred Kohout is joining EMC in that position, according to an internal EMC memo which was obtained by CRN.

Kohout is presumably taking over the position vacated by Kristian Thyregod, who until last June was EMC's vice president of global channel marketing and global distribution.

EMC was unavailable to comment on Kohout's move to that company.

Kohout was most recently the chief marketing officer of UC4 Software, the Bellevue, Wash.-based developer of ONE Automation, a software application for the unified automation of business processes, applications, and IT infrastructure.

Prior to UC4, Kohout he was CMO of TAGSYS, a developer of RFID technology. He also spent 18 years with Sun Microsystems, where he held senior positions in sales and marketing.

The memo announcing Kohout's move to EMC was jointly signed by Helene Barnekow, senior vice president of worldwide field and channel marketing, and Gregg Ambulos, senior vice president of global channel operations.

Kohout will report to both Barnekow and Ambulos.

In their memo, Barnekow and Ambulos wrote, " We are extremely pleased to share with you the announcement of Fred Kohout as Leader of our Global Channel Marketing. This is a critical appointment for us as we continue to further accelerate our channel strategy, and pursuing our aggressive market share strategy with particular focus on the Mid and SMB market."
