Head Of Lenovo's Enterprise Business Resigns

Jay Parker, senior vice president of Lenovo's enterprise business group, has resigned after holding that position for less than six months, Lenovo has confirmed.

Parker's position will be held by Gerry Smith, executive vice president and COO of Lenovo's PC and enterprise business group, until a permanent replacement is found.

"The question is where did he go?" said Lou Giovanetti, co-founder of CPU Sales and Service, a Waltham, Mass.-based Lenovo partner. "I don't know how to take that one. There's been some shifting around, but that's a pretty a high-level position."

Parker, who oversaw Lenovo's server and data storage business, has been with Lenovo since 2007, and held several positions in the company, including vice president of operations for North America. Prior to Lenovo, he was director of worldwide marketing for Dell servers.

Parker's resignation was first reported by the News Observer of Raleigh, N.C. Lenovo's U.S. headquarters are in Morrisville, N.C.

The high-level departure comes as Lenovo wrestles with faltering earnings amid softness in key markets. The China-based PC giant said earlier this month that it would lay off about five percent of its total workforce, or about 3,200 people, as the market for PCs continued to weaken.

Lenovo finished its fiscal first quarter with 13 percent PC market share in the Americas and a 20 percent market share in PCs worldwide. PC shipments in the Americas were up 8.8 percent, but were down more than 7 percent overall.

Lenovo reported a $105 million profit for the quarter compared to $214 million in the same period a year ago. Revenue was $10.7 billion, up 3 percent from a year ago.
