10 Hot Products To See At Oracle OpenWorld 2012

Seeing all there is to see at Oracle OpenWorld isn't easy. Getting in and out of the keynotes and sessions, moving between Moscone North, South and West (not to mention the Hilton where the JavaOne conference is happening), finding your way around the exhibition floors -- even squeezing in time to eat -- isn't easy. Not when you're doing all that along with more than 50,000 other attendees.

So, we've done a little pre-OOW legwork and identified 10 new hardware and software products that we think are worth checking out. With close to 400 partner exhibits at the show, there are bound to be some unexpected surprises on the expo show floor. But, this list should give you a start in making your "gotta see" list.

Attunity Replicate For Exadata

Attunity (Moscone West, Booth #3220) will be announcing Attunity Replicate for Oracle Exadata, a complete data replication system to help businesses leverage big data and assemble operational data warehouses based on the Oracle Exadata database appliance.

The software allows continuous OLTP data capture from multiple data sources and enables operational reporting without any impact on production databases, according to the company. The product offers a simple "click-2-replicate" interface and provides schema and DDL replication.

InsightSoftware

InsightSoftware (Moscone West, Booth #3630) will debut products that help businesses improve the performance of their Oracle E-Business Suite and JD Edwards applications.

Insight Designer Express (left) allows users to view information across traditional and custom E-Business Suite tables to improve reporting of E-Business Suite data. And, the new Insight Upgrader helps owners of Oracle's JD Edwards applications manage data migration and custom report rollovers when moving to a new version of JD Edwards software.

MicroStrategy 9.3

MicroStrategy (Moscone South, Booth #1641) will be demonstrating MicroStrategy 9.3, the latest release of the company's core business intelligence platform. Tops among the list of enhancements are the new visualizations (density maps, image layouts and network diagrams) added to the software's Visual Insight data discovery tools that improve the software's self-service analytical capabilities.

MicroStrategy 9.3 also offers improved connectivity to Apache Hadoop for "big data" analysis, extended support for the "R" open-source predictive analytics programming language and automated business intelligence administration with the new MicroStrategy System Manager.

NetApp Storage Plug-In

The NetApp (Moscone South, Booth #1301) storage systems the company will be showing at Oracle OpenWorld are more tightly integrated with Oracle systems thanks to this week's news that the NetApp Storage System Plug-In version 1.0 achieved Oracle "validated integration" with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c.

The NetApp Storage System Plug-In provides system availability, performance and configuration data about NetApp storage controllers to Oracle Enterprise Manager, extending its application-to-disk management coverage.

Nimbus Data Gemini

Nimbus Data Systems (Moscone South, Booth #211) will be showing off its recently unveiled Gemini flash memory arrays, which the company says have a 10-year endurance rate and support up to 1 petabyte of weekly data writes without performance loss.

The Gemini drives boast a parallel memory architecture capable of 12 GB per second data transfers and over 1 million input/output operations per second. They can be configured with up to 48 TB of flash capacity in 2U rack units and support the highest Ethernet, Infiniband and Fibre Channel speeds.

Noetix

Noetix (Moscone West, Booth #3237) will be demonstrating its recently announced Noetix Generator for Microsoft Business Intelligence, software that provides operational and strategic reporting from Oracle E-Business Suite applications, providing data to users of Microsoft Business Intelligence software.

Oracle Java Embedded 3.2

Java (Java DemoGrounds, Booth #5216, Hilton Grand Ballroom) is embedded in everything from your car and DVD player to phones and printers. At the JavaOne show Oracle will be showing Oracle Java ME (Micro Edition) Embedded 3.2, a new release of the software used in low-power devices such as micro-controllers and other hardware that lack screens or user interfaces. The new release includes a commercial implementation for devices based on the ARM architecture.

Oracle is also showing the new Oracle Java Wireless Client 3.3 software and Oracle Java ME SDK 3.2 developer kit.

Quest Toad For Oracle 11.6

Quest Software (Moscone South, Booth #1121) will roll out Toad for Oracle 11.6, the newest release of the popular SQL database development and administration tool. A key enhancement is the software's new remote access and execution capabilities that let users access, view and execute Toad scripts via any mobile device through a Web portal.

The release offers 64-bit support for Oracle -- there's even a new Oracle Exadata edition -- and support for the IBM Rational ClearCase version control software. And, a new synchronization feature allows Toad users to store files online for restoring Toad scripts and preventing data loss and synchronize those scripts across multiple computers.

Terracotta BigMemory Go

Terracotta's (Moscone South, Booth #642) BigMemory Go in-memory computing technology lets IT managers store as much data in inexpensive server RAM as the servers have available in order to speed application performance.

BigMemory Go also provides search APIs for searching in-memory data and includes the Terracotta Management Console, a Web-based dashboard for monitoring and managing BigMemory Go deployments. Terracotta is making the technology available via a free 32-GB per-instance production license.

ZeroTurnaround LiveRebel 2.5

ZeroTurnaround (JavaOne, Hilton Grand Ballroom, Booth #5410) will be showing off LiveRebel 2.5, a new release of the Java EE server management tool for making automated, instant updates to Java applications while in production.

The new release is cloud ready and offers enhancements to its user interface, server management and audit trails capabilities and provides plug-ins for Jenkins/Hudson and Bamboo continuous integration servers.
