10 Business Laptops That Use AMD's New Ryzen 4000 CPUs

With more than 70 business laptops expected to use AMD's latest Ryzen 4000 processors this year, CRN takes a look at some of the first designs coming out from top OEMs that pack more performance and security features, among other things.

New Lenovo, HP Pro Laptops Support AMD's 7nm Mobile CPUs

AMD has launched its new Ryzen Pro 4000 processors for ultra-thin business laptops, claiming performance gains over Intel's vPro lineup and competitive management and security features.

With Thursday's launch of the enterprise-grade processors, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company is receiving early support from Lenovo with five new business laptops using Ryzen Pro 4000, which comes with new AMD Pro Technologies that the chipmaker says can go "toe-to-toe" with Intel vPro.

But the chipmaker, which is seeking to challenge Intel's dominance in the commercial laptop space, is also supporting business laptops with its Ryzen 4000 U-series processors, which do not feature AMD Pro Technologies for security, manageability and reliability. HP Inc. is one such OEM that is releasing new business laptops with the Ryzen 4000 U-series designed for small- to medium-sized businesses.

AMD expects 70 or more business laptops to use Ryzen 4000 processors this year, up from 51 designs the chipmaker had in 2019 with its previous generation of mobile processors, according to Matthew Unangst, director of AMD's commercial client business. Out of those 70, a substantial portion of them and all of the premium models will use Ryzen Pro 4000 processors, he said.

"The key thing we're focused on is delivering a leadership class of product for our commercial products and frankly raising the bar in terms of the performance, battery life and technology capabilities there," Unangst said in an interview with CRN.

What follows are 10 new business laptops coming out this year that are using AMD's Ryzen Pro 4000 processors and Ryzen 4000 U-series processors.

HP ProBook x360 435 G7

HP Inc.'s ProBook x360 435 G7 is a new SMB-focused two-in-one device announced earlier this year that run on AMD's Ryzen 4000 U-series processors, with planned availability in May.

With a 13.3-inch screen and a 3.19-pound form factor, the two-in-one supports up to an eight-core Ryzen with Radeon graphics. The laptop offers up to 16 GB in DDR4-3200 SDRAM and up to 512 GB in PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD storage, among other storage options. It also comes with Intel AX200 Wi-Fi 6, two USB 3.1 ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port as well as a 720p HD camera or HD+IR camera.

The laptop features commercial-grade security features like HP Sure Start and HP Sure Sense as well as management features like HP System Software Manager and HP BIOS Config Utility.

HP ProBook 445/455 G7

HP Inc's ProBook 445 G7 and ProBook 455 G7 are new SMB-focused ultrathin laptops that were launched earlier this year with AMD's Ryzen 4000 U-series processors.

The ProBook 445 G7 features a 14-inch display and the ProBook 455 G7 comes with a 15.6-inch display. The devices feature up to an eight-core Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon graphics, and they support up to 16 GB in DDR4-3200 SDRAM, up to 1 TB in 5400 RPM SATA storage and up to 512 GB in PCIe NVMe value M.2 SSD storage, among other storage options. They also come with Intel AX200 Wi-Fi 6, two USB 3.1 ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port as well as a 720p HD camera and IR camera.

The laptops feature commercial-grade security features like HP Sure Start and HP Sure Sense as well as management features like HP System Software Manager and HP BIOS Config Utility.

Both ProBooks are now available, with the 445 starting at $1,083 and 455 starting at $1,111.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14

Pitched as a "premium business workhorse," Lenovo's ThinkPad T14 laptop comes with AMD's Ryzen Pro 4000 processors as an alternative to Intel's latest Core vPro processors.

Weighing at 3.23 pounds and coming in at 17.9 millimeters thin, the ThinkPad T14 promises up to 16 hours of battery life, according to AMD. With a planned launch in June, Lenovo said the T14 will start at $849. Additional information about the specs was not available.

Lenovo said the laptops will support premium features such as Modern Standby, Wake on Voice and Dolby Audio Speaker System. The laptop will also support Lenovo's ThinkShield security solutions, which are enabled and complemented by the Ryzen Pro processors' AMD Pro Security capabilities.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s

Lenovo's ThinkPad T14s takes things a step above the company's standard T14 in the premium laptop category by increasing the battery life and reducing the size of the overall form factor.

The T14s weighs 2.8 pounds and measures 16.1 millimeters thin while promising up to 20 hours of battery life, thanks in part to AMD's Ryzen Pro 4000 processors, according to AMD. Lenovo said T14s will be available in June starting at $1,029. Additional information about the specs was not available.

Like the T14, the T14s will support premium features such as Modern Standby, Wake on Voice and Dolby Audio Speaker System. It will also support Lenovo's ThinkShield security solutions, which are enabled and complemented by the Ryzen Pro processor's AMD Pro Security capabilities.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13

Pitched as a "premium mobile workhorse," Lenovo's ThinkPad X13 comes in a smaller and more portable package while offering AMD's Ryzen Pro 4000 series as an alternative to Intel vPro.

Weighing at 2.84 pounds and measuring at 16.9 millimeters thin, the X13 promises up to 17.5 hours of battery life, made possible in part by the new Ryzen Pro processors, according to AMD. The X13 is slated for a June launch, starting at a price of $849. More information about specs was not available.

The laptop supports premium features such as Modern Standby, Wake on Voice as well as FHD 500 nit PrivacyGuard ePrivacy display with PrivacyAlert that helps protects the screen from onlookers. The laptop also supports Lenovo's ThinkShield security solutions, which are enabled and complemented by the Ryzen Pro processor's AMD Pro Security capabilities.

Lenovo ThinkPad L14/L15

Lenovo's ThinkPad L14 and ThinkPad L15 laptops are positioned on the value end of the company's business laptop spectrum, offering AMD's Ryzen Pro 4000 CPUs as an alternative to Intel vPro.

The L14 and L15 both promise up to 14 hours of battery life while weighing 3.56 pounds and 4.37 pounds, respectively, according to AMD. The L14 is 20.4 millimeters thin while the L15 is 21 millimeters thin. With a planned June Launch, the L14 and L15 will both start at $649. Additional information about the specs of the laptops was not available.

The L14 and L15 comes with features such as rapid-access unified communications keys, Dolby Audio and a fingerprint reader while supporting optional on-cell touch displays. The laptops also support Lenovo's ThinkShield security solutions, which are enabled and complemented by the Ryzen Pro processor's AMD Pro Security capabilities.

Lenovo ThinkPad E14/E15

Pitched as high-performance laptops for SMB customers, Lenovo's ThinkPad E14 and ThinkPad E15 support up to a Ryzen 7 4700U with Radeon graphics.

Lenovo said the laptops come with an improved screen-to-body ratio of 18 percent while also offering new innovative security features, like a fingerprint reader and optional IR camera, for the first time in the company's ThinkPad E series lineup. With a planned June launch, the E14 and E15 will start at $639.

With support for Mirametrix's Glance software, the laptops can automatically lock when the user steps away while also enabling Snap Window and Smart Pointer functionality for multi-display setups. The laptops also come with Harman-branded speakers, Dolby Audio software, dual-array far field microphones and hot key integration for Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business.
