5 Things To Know About HP's Refreshed OfficeJet Pro Lineup
Fit To Print
HP Inc. says it's seeking to better meet the needs of small businesses with the 2019 refresh to its OfficeJet Pro lineup of all-in-one inkjet printers. The new OfficeJet Pro series—which offers printing, scanning, copying and faxing—includes an updated design along with enhanced security capabilities that have been brought over from HP's enterprise line of printers. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company also disclosed a number of new features coming to the new OfficeJet Pro devices.
HP announced three new OfficeJet Pro devices that will be available through commercial channel partners—the OfficeJet Pro 8025, 9015 and 9025. The announcement comes just ahead of the HP Reinvent partner conference in Houston next week.
What follows are five key things to know about HP's refreshed OfficeJet Pro lineup.
Design
One of the most evident changes with the new OfficeJet Pro series is the external design, which has been redone to give the devices a more modern-looking and compact form factor, HP said. Since space is at a premium in many offices, HP says it has reduced the overall size of the new OfficeJet Pro models by 39 percent from predecessor models. The size reduction has come without any tradeoffs in the form of speed or print quality reduction, according to the company. Additionally, the new OfficeJet Pros feature color accents in high-usage areas and other design and color flourishes that serve to help guide customer actions on the devices, HP said. The new OfficeJet Pros are available in three color choices, as well—basalt (light grey), oasis (similar to aqua blue) and coral (a pinkish red color).
Security
With the new OfficeJet Pro launch, HP is looking to push further in the realm of print security—where the company is already a leader through offering a range of enterprise print security features and the first-ever print security bug bounty. The new OfficeJet Pros will add a number of security capabilities that were previously only available in HP's enterprise printer line, the company said. Those include secure boot with self-healing, so that the printer checks its firmware whenever for any issues or suspicious code every time it boots up and then automatically addresses the problem. Other enterprise security features appearing in the OfficeJet Pro line for the first time include secure erase (which ensures that old documents and sensitive information are completely erased), WPA enterprise wireless security (so that the device will connect to the best available Wi-Fi signal) and a control panel lock (so that non-authorized users cannot make changes to the control panel).
Features
The OfficeJet Pro 9025 will offer the fastest printing speed with up to 24 pages per minute, while the OfficeJet Pro 9015 will offer up to 22 pages per minute and the 8025 model will offer up to 20 pages per minute. Along with boasting the fastest print speeds, the 9025 model also now includes two 250-page input paper trays. All three models offer a 35-page auto-feeder.
Newly added features for the refreshed OfficeJet Pros include self-healing Wi-Fi, which detects when a Wi-Fi connection is lost and attempts to recover the connection. If the connection can't be automatically recovered—for instance, due to a change of the Wi-Fi password—the OfficeJet Pro will intelligently guide users to address the issue on the control panel, HP said.
Other Updates
Additional enhancements include a doubling of duplex scanning speeds on the top-of-the-line OfficeJet Pro 9025—with speeds of up to 15 pages per minute, versus six pages per minute previously. The new OfficeJet Pros also include "easy slide-off glass," so that documents that are being scanned don't get caught on a lip when you remove them, and a smart output tray sensor that prevents paper spills by pausing a print job once 100 pages have been printed into the output tray.
HP also announced an update to its HP Smart app, which adds a helpful new feature called Smart Tasks. Smart Tasks allows users to create custom shortcuts—such as automatically sending scanned receipt data to QuickBooks—which HP says can cut the time needed to do such tasks in half.
Price & Availability
HP announced that the OfficeJet Pro 9015 and the OfficeJet Pro 9025 will be available in the U.S. this month. Suggested pricing for the OfficeJet Pro 9015 is $229, while the OfficeJet Pro 9025 comes with suggested pricing of $329. For the OfficeJet Pro 8025, availability is set for June and suggested pricing is $169, HP said. Each of the models comes with a two-year warranty and an option for next business day exchange, HP said.
