It's coming: CES is about to return to Las Vegas for another year of innovation and trend-setting product launches. CES 2020 is looking to be an especially important show with the arrival of technologies such as 5G, foldable devices and augmented reality in a bigger way this year. CES showcases will offer up both cutting-edge products that are just now coming to market along with novel technologies that are not yet ready for commercialization. CES 2020 gets rolling with press conferences on Sunday and Monday (Jan. 5-6) before the official conference kicks off Tuesday, Jan. 7. The exhibits and demos will run through Friday, Jan. 10, and CES 2020 is expected to draw more than 4,500 companies and more than 175,000 attendees.

Since CES can be an overwhelming event to follow, we've chosen 25 products that are poised to stand out next week in Las Vegas—from top vendors such as LG, Samsung and Dell, down to some of the smaller up-and-coming players in the tech industry.

Dell Latitude 9510

Just ahead of CES 2020, Dell Technologies unveiled its new Latitude 9510 notebook, available both as a 2-in-1 or a clamshell model. The notebook will include a 15-inch display with FHD resolution and slim bezels around the "InfinityEdge" screen. The clamshell version has a starting weight of 3.2 pounds, while the convertible model starts at 3.3 pounds. The Latitude 9510 also features a thickness of just 0.67 of an inch. On battery life, the notebook is seeking to stand out with up to 30 hours of battery life on a charge (with an optional six-cell, 88 WHr battery). The Latitude 9510 will offer advanced connectivity, Dell said, with support for both Wi-Fi 6 and high-speed 5G mobile broadband. Dell is also emphasizing the use of artificial intelligence with the Latitude 9510; key AI-powered features include ExpressResponse, which assesses user preferences and taps machine learning (with Intel Adaptix technology) to more quickly launch frequently used applications while also boosting application performance overall. The Latitude 9510 will be available on March 26.

Iogear Dock Pro 100

Iogear will be showing off its ultra-thin docking station, the Iogear Dock Pro 100, as part of CES 2020. The docking station measures just a half-inch thick, while weighing just two-thirds of a pound. The Dock Pro 100 supports docking of up eight devices through inclusion of ports including three USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI (supporting 4K), DisplayPort, VGA, built-in memory card readers and 3.5mm audio, along with a built-in USB-C cable. Capabilities include charging of laptops during docking, thanks to up to 100W of available power delivery.

Jabra PanaCast

Jabra will be using CES to showcase its recently launched multi-camera "intelligent video system," the Jabra PanaCast. The camera array system offers a panoramic view with available 4K resolution, and is certified for use with the Microsoft Teams collaboration app. The video system offers 39.6-megapixel imaging capacity paired with features including a 180-degree field of view (for an immersive user experience and equitable participation during a meeting) along with people detection technology (for counting the number of people in attendance to better inform resource management and room utilization within an organization). The Jabra PanaCast also provides plug-and-play operation with just a single USB cable (and no software) required.

iRobot Roomba s9+

During CES 2020, iRobot will be showing off one of its latest innovations in automated vacuuming, the Roomba s9+. The robotic vacuum features upgrades including increased suction for lifting debris and dirt, optimized cleaning of corners and edges, an anti-allergen system, and technology for mapping out the home and determining the ideal cleaning plan. Another significant feature is the Roomba's Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal system, through which the Roomba s9+ will empty its own bin—allowing users to go weeks without having to think about vacuuming, according to iRobot. Key technology advances include iAdapt 3.0 Navigation with vSLAM (for keeping track of where the Roomba has cleaned) and an enhanced 3-D sensor for scanning what is in the robot's path.

Acer Swift 5

Acer will be using CES 2020 to showcase one of its latest efforts in the ultraportable laptop category, the Swift 5. The notebook measures just a half-inch thick with a weight of only 2.1 pounds for a model configured with Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics. The Swift 5's body is made from lightweight magnesium-lithium and magnesium-aluminum alloys, while its 14-inch display features slim bezels for a screen-to-body ratio of 86.4 percent. The notebook also offers up to 12.5 hours of battery life on a charge and includes fast-charging capabilities, with a half-hour charge providing 4.5 hours of usage.

Among the innovations on display from TP-Link at CES will be the Archer AX11000, a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 gaming router. The Archer AX11000 promises massive gaming performance with Wi-Fi speeds of more than 10 Gbps, paired with a game accelerator that reduces latency and optimizes gaming streams. The router is powered by a quad-core, 1.8GHz CPU and features eight high-performance external antennas—while also offering strong connectivity options via a 2.5-Gbps WAN port and eight Gigabit LAN ports, along with USB-A and USB-C ports.

Airbitat Compact Cooler

Airbitat is a compact air cooler developed by Innosparks that claims to reduce electricity use by up to 80 percent compared with air conditioners with similar capacities. Innosparks, the innovation arm of ST Engineering, said the air-cooling unit is also 50 percent more effective at cooling than traditional evaporative coolers, thanks to its Reevac Deep Cooling Technology, which provides industrial-strength cooling in a compact size without the use of chemical refrigerants or noisy fans. The Airbitat Compact Cooler measures roughly 4 feet high by less than 2 feet wide.

Blaize Graph Streaming Processor

After coming out of stealth mode last fall, artificial intelligence chip startup Blaize plans to showcase its Blaize Graph Streaming Processor architecture for AI workloads. The El Dorado, Calif.-based startup said its computing architecture is the first to "enable concurrent execution of multiple neural networks and entire workflows on a single system while supporting a diverse range of heterogeneous compute intensive workloads." The startup said its Graph Streaming Processor architecture overcomes barriers in AI processing cost, size and efficiency for automotive use cases like advanced driver assist and cabin monitoring as well as smart vision use cases like multi-object detection and behavioral analysis.

Ebb

Ebb is a wearable sleep device from its namesake company, Ebb Therapeutics, that aims to relieve sleeplessness caused by an overactive mind. Using Ebb's PrecisionCool Technology, the fluid-filled headband wraps around the head and brings the forehead to an optimal temperature, which the company said can help calm people whose minds are racing with thoughts as they try to fall asleep. The device, whose cooling technology is said to reduce metabolic activity in the frontal cortex, was developed by Dr. Eric Nofzinger, who has studied the brain mechanisms of healthy sleepy for 35 years.

ioTrapster

The ioTrapster is a connected fishing trap that gives fishermen a live view of what's inside the trap while also serving as an anti-theft device. The device consists of a trap outfitted with a pressure sensor and a camera as well as a tethered buoy that is equipped with a GPS receiver, Bluetooth Low Energy transceiver and battery. The company behind the ioTrapster, Global Secure Cloud, said that by giving fishermen a remote view of the trap, it can save them time and money by cutting down on the times they visit the trap to see if anything has been caught. In addition to providing geolocation, the smartphone-connected device can also send SMS alerts.

Lexilens

The Lexilens are specialized glasses that aim to help children with dyslexia read and write by filtering out the disorder's symptoms, according to the wearable's manufacturer, Abeye. The company said the smart eyewear technology is "based on a scientific discovery that highlights symmetry between the two eyes as the probable cause of dyslexia." The eyewear, which is compatible with prescription lenses, comes with a switch for reading and writing and a long-lasting battery. Abeye is a French startup that was incubated by Atol les Opticiens, an optical retailer with nearly 800 stores across France.

Luminook

Luminook is a hands-free lighting offering for closets and small spaces that uses advanced motion detection sensors to automatically light a space. The offering uses a thin LED light strip that lines the inner frame of the door and connects to a smartphone companion app to adjust its color temperature and brightness, both of which can be set to change depending on the time of day or position of the sun. The goal is to provide closets and small spaces with lighting from the floor to ceiling that is completely out of view. A Kickstarter campaign for Luminook is set to begin this month.

Motion Pillow

Motion Pillow aims to cut down on snoring with a connected pillow offering that detects the position of the user's head and inflates an airbag to create a better posture for unimpeded nasal breathing. The offering consists of a memory foam pillow that contains inflatable airbags as well as a solution box that monitors snoring and head position. The device syncs with a smartphone companion app that provides real-time analysis and reports of sleeping patterns. The company behind the anti-snoring pillow, 10Minds, recently launched an Indiegogo campaign for a second-generation version of the product.

Silent Beacon

The Silent Beacon is a Bluetooth-connected panic button that automatically sends the user's GPS location to multiple contacts and contacts 911 in the case of an emergency. As a small handheld device, the Silent Beacon can be clipped to clothing or worn as a bracelet, and its buttons are indented as a way to cut down on false alerts. With a large speaker and a noise-cancellation microphone, the device allows for two-way communication. It also comes with a silent alert mode to prevent others from being tipped off and multi-color LED lights for visual confirmation during alerts.

Tactsuit

Tactsuit is a wireless full-body haptic suit that aims to give the user tactile feedback from the face and hands all the way down to the feet for video games and other forms of entertainment. With a face cushion, vest, wristband and hand and foot covers, the suit comes with 70 individually controllable vibration actuators designed to provide a more immersive media experience. The suit is designed by bHaptics, which provides software, software development kits and software libraries for integrating Tactsuit with any type of content. The Tactsuit is already optimized to support a select list of virtual reality titles, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR.

Tapplock one+

The Tapplock one+ is a heavy-duty fingerprint padlock that can store up to 500 different fingerprints per lock and can unlockin less than one second. The padlock comes with a "state-of-the-art" capacitive fingerprint sensor and an adaptive algorithm that makes the padlock unlock faster and become more accurate over time. The stainless-steel padlock can also be unlocked with Tapplock's smartphone companion app and a backup Morse Code mode. Using the Tapplock app, the operator of the padlock can easily share and revoke Bluetooth access to the lock and track access history.

Time of Flight Camera by Gigabyte

The Time of Flight Camera is a new 3-D sensing product from Gigabyte that provides high-performance advanced depth analytics at a low cost compared to current-generation RGB and stereoscopic cameras. The camera's use cases include smart retail, where it can be used to scan and generate 3-D personal images for an online-to-offline fitting simulation, and smart security, where the camera can be incorporated in an all-in-one edge device. Other potential applications include patient monitoring, robot navigation, environment scanning and interactive digital signage.

zLight

ZLight is a bedside sleep box designed by Premiere Electronics that is based on an idea Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerburg came up with to improve his wife's sleep. The sleep box emits a faint light that indicates whether the user needs to wake up or not, and the light's color and brightness can be easily adjusted to a preferred time schedule. The sleep box comes in three versions: Lite, which comes with light glowing and illumination; Plus, which comes with a wireless charger; and Pro, which comes with sensors for humidity, temperature and CO2.

Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra

Dell Technologies will be showcasing its new breed of all-in-one with the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra. The PC comes in a form factor that is small enough to fit entirely inside the back of a monitor, offering a zero-footprint desktop PC design. The PC measures just 0.78 of an inch thick with a width of 3.8 inches and a height of 10 inches—for a total volume of only 26.6 cubic inches. The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra also offers strong serviceability and upgradeability. Because the Ultra can be easily removed, it can be swapped out, upgraded or serviced as needs arise for the user. And doing so does not require tools, making the process even quicker for an IT team. Processor options consist of eighth-generation Intel Whiskey Lake processors, topping out at the Core i7-8665U (quad-core, clock speed of up to 4.8GHz).

HP Reverb

HP will be highlighting its commercial VR push at CES 2020 by showing off the HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset, which is targeted for verticals such as health care and for uses such as employee training. The Windows Mixed Reality headset offers resolution of 2,160 x 2,160 per eye—providing a level of clarity that is crucial for some business applications that require reading text on the display screen. The Reverb headset also features 114-degree field-of-view, integrated spatial audio and improved comfort, according to HP. In addition, the Reverb features a sleeker design than previous HP VR headsets and weighs just 0.95 of a pound, compared with 1.84 pounds on the HP Windows Mixed Reality headset.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro

Following the debut of the Galaxy Tab Active2 in 2018—a rugged tablet for business—Samsung recently launched a successor model with the Galaxy Tab Active Pro. Updates with the Tab Active Pro include a larger display at 10.1 inches, versus 8 inches on the previous model, along with expanded battery life at 16 hours compared with 11 hours previously. Another new addition is that the new tablet supports DeX, Samsung's feature that lets users pull up an Android desktop on an external screen by plugging in a Galaxy device. Like the prior model, the Galaxy Tab Active Pro offers business-friendly features such as the ability to use with gloves; strong durability and water resistance; and eFOTA (enterprise firmware over-the-air) management to ensure continuous security and control.

Samsung Galaxy Fold

2020 will mark the first CES since the foldable smartphone broke into the mainstream, with the launch of Samsung's Galaxy Fold. The nearly $2,000 foldable smartphone arrived in North America in September after its initial scrapped launch in April. When opened, the Galaxy Fold offers 7.3 inches of display space, using Samsung's Infinity Flex Display technology. When closed, the Galaxy Fold has a 4.6-inch display on its top cover, which can be used to access apps as normal. The foldable display makes use of a sophisticated hinge system that allows users to open and close the Galaxy Fold smoothly. The Galaxy Fold also comes with Samsung's Galaxy Fold Premier Service, allowing buyers to consult with a "Fold Concierge" to walk them through using and caring for the device.

LG G8 ThinQ

At CES 2020, LG will be showing off its flagship smartphone, the G8 ThinQ, which stands out with some quirky features. The 6.1-inch smartphone includes a feature that LG is calling "Air Motion" commands, which lets you wave your hand to perform functions such as answering calls, increasing the volume and snoozing an alarm. Users can also log in using a scan of their palm as a new form of biometric authentication. In addition, LG said the display on the G8 ThinQ is actually also the phone's speaker, which the company said helps to provide clearer, more-immersive sound. The LG G8 ThinQ is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and features an OLED display with QHD+ resolution.

HP Elite Dragonfly

At CES, HP will be showing off the latest evolution of its business notebook portfolio, the Elite Dragonfly. The recently launched convertible notebook features a fresh design paired with serious portability and battery life. The notebook's design features a CNC-machined magnesium body and an iridescent "dragonfly blue" color, and HP is touting it as “lightest compact business convertible” out there with a starting weight of just 2.2 pounds. Another standout feature of the Elite Dragonfly is its battery life, which HP said is the longest in a 13-inch business convertible; the company promises up to 24.5 hours of battery life per charge on the notebook. On performance, the Elite Dragonfly offers choices of processors from Intel's eighth-generation Whiskey Lake series, topping out at the Core i7-8565U with Intel vPro technology. The Elite Dragonfly includes a 13.3-inch convertible touch screen, with choices between FHD and 4K resolution.

Lenovo Yoga C940

Lenovo's latest flagship Yoga convertible is the Yoga C940, which continues the line's tradition of combining strong design, performance and flexibility. The notebook features a 14-inch display with either FHD or UHD resolution on an all-metal chassis. Key features include a built-in privacy shutter and Windows Hello facial authentication, along with an "intelligent cooling mode" that helps enable better battery life (up to 17.5 hours of battery life for the FHD model, and up to 10.5 hours for UHD). The Yoga C940 also comes with a redesigned rotating sound bar with Dolby Atmos speakers and includes voice control via the Amazon Alexa assistant. The Yoga C940 sports powerful performance with up to a 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor as well, and continues to rate well on portability with a weight just under 3 pounds.
