These Windows 10 Systems Are Available Now, Shipping July 29
Getting A Jump On Windows 10
Dell and Hewlett-Packard are ready for Windows 10 with a bevy of PCs available now that ship with free next-day delivery the day the OS is available July 29. That gives partners, businesses and consumers hungry for systems preconfigured with the OS an ability to have a Windows 10 PC the day after the OS goes on sale with a delivery date of July 30.
"We are offering free next-day shipping so customers will receive the device on July 29," Mike Nash, vice president of product strategy and customer experience at HP, wrote in a company blog post. HP has 10 preconfigured Windows 10 systems that offer free next-day shipping for a July 30 delivery date, compared with nine from Dell.
Lenovo says it plans to offer a swath of 2-in-1 devices along with laptops and desktops that ship with Windows 10 starting July 29. No word on a promised delivery date.
Here is a look at systems channel partners, businesses and consumers can preorder with a preinstalled Windows 10 OS ahead of the launch.
Lenovo's Windows 10 Blitz
Unlike Dell and Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo isn't advertising next-day delivery of Windows 10 systems the day after the OS goes on sale. Lenovo did tell CRN it will have several systems available for preorder through normal commercial channels via what it calls BAU. Starting July 29, it added, Lenovo will also have a half-dozen Windows 10 systems for consumers and businesses.
For example, the world's No. 1 PC maker says partners can preorder a selection of Windows 10 models starting with its ThinkPad X1 Carbon thin and light line of laptops.
Today, Lenovo's X1 Carbon Ultrabook comes in three flavors, starting at $1,100 and running up to $1,900. Lenovo has been mum on what the pricing and configuration will be for the Windows 10 model, confirming only availability and the operating system.
Windows 10 Does Yoga
Lenovo's popular ThinkPad Yoga line of convertible laptops will be available via BAU preorder. The ThinkPad Yoga line is Lenovo's business line of its popular Yoga consumer PC. The ThinkPad Yoga comes with a number of business features. Expect the 12.4-inch ThinkPad Yoga to stand out as a Windows 10 PC with advanced security and possibly biometric capabilities.
Lenovo Business-Grade Laptop
According to Lenovo, E series laptops will also become available to Lenovo's channel partners July 29. No word on what the configurations will be, but these midrange business laptops have a starting cost of $430 and range up to $550.
Dell: 2-in-1 With Windows 10
Michael Dell said last week via Twitter that Dell would begin shipping Windows 10 PCs to customers July 29. To sweeten the pot, Dell.com says it will offer free overnight shipping on select systems so anyone who absolutely needs a preconfigured Windows 10 system would have it within 24 hours of the official launch. No word what Dell's commercial laptops and desktops will be that run Windows 10 Pro.
On the entry-level front, it's offering the Inspiron 11 3000 Series 2-in-1 PC starting at $450. The 11.6-inch touch screen brings to the table an attractive design with good battery life, and starting July 29, Windows 10 Home edition.
Dell: Desktop
On the Windows 10 desktop front, Dell is offering a number of preorder options for systems, including performance PC XPS 8700. The 8700 line starts at $700 and scales up to a $1,200 PC that sports an Intel Core i7 Processor, Windows 10 Home, 8 GB memory, 1 TB hard drive and discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 1 GB DDR3 video card.
Dell: Notebook
On the Dell Windows 10 laptop front, you can order the 15.6-inch Inspiron 15 5000 PC, which comes loaded with Microsoft's latest OS, Intel's Core i5-5200U processor, 1 TB 5400 hard drive, 8 GB DDR3 and touch display. This Inspiron 15 5000 also comes with a built-in DVD drive and will run you $680.
HP: All-In-One Systems
Hewlett-Packard has a number of Windows 10 systems available for preorder that also come with free overnight shipping, so you can have a preconfigured Windows 10 system by July 30. No word yet, however, when HP will be rolling out the Windows 10 Pro systems. Windows 10 Pro systems configured online, at the time of this writing, won't ship until Aug. 20. For now, all preorders are for Windows 10 Home.
Topping its list of Windows 10 systems is the HP all-in-one 22-3110 PC, which ships with Windows 10 Home (64-bit) with a price tag of $550. The PC features AMD dual-core E-Series processor, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, a 21.5-inch diagonal touch-enabled LED-backlit display and integrated AMD Radeon R2 graphics.
HP: Desktop
HP's Pavilion 550-a114 desktop is also getting the Windows 10 Home (64-bit) bump. This $550 system ships with AMD quad-core A-Series processor, 8 GB DDR3 RAM and 1 TB 7200 SATA hard drive. Additional specifications include a DVD burner, integrated 802.11b/g/n wireless and a 7-in-1 memory card reader.
HP Laptop
On the laptop front HP is making its 13.3-inch Spectre 13- 4102dx available to ship July 28. It's a consumer laptop running Windows 10 Home (64-bit), Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB DDR3 RAM and has a starting price of $1,400.
Ports include three USB-C, one HDMI port and a Mini DisplayPort. It's worth noting this model laptop includes USB-C connectors, most commonly found today on MacBooks, not the standard USB 3.1 connectors common on PC and laptops.
HP: Entry Level Windows 10
At $410 the 15.6-inch HP notebook 15Z f355nr is one of the most affordable Windows 10 systems shipping on day one. The 15Z ships with Windows 10 Home (64-bit), AMD Quad-Core A-Series processor, 4 GB DDR3 and not-so-speedy 750 GB 5400 SATA hard drive.
