CES 2018: Lenovo Refreshes ThinkPad X1 Lineup, Launches ARM- And Google Assistant-Powered Devices

Lenovo is not one to miss out on the device extravaganza of CES 2018. The company is using the Las Vegas gadget show to debut refreshed versions of three premium ThinkPad X1 devices -- the X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga and X1 Tablet -- as well as the ThinkVision X1 display. Lenovo also is introducing its first Windows device running an ARM processor and a new device powered by the Google Assistant.

In the following slides, we've got the details on the six new products that Lenovo just unveiled as part of CES 2018.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

For the sixth generation of Lenovo's X1 Carbon, the popular business notebook is getting an enhanced 14-inch display with improved color and brightness (up to 500 nits). That's thanks to it being one of the first two laptops (along with the new X1 Yoga) to support Dolby Vision HDR technology. Other new additions include USB-C mechanical side docking, improved microphones (that reach a further distance), and eighth-gen Intel Core processors. In addition, the new X1 Carbon offers up to 15 hours of battery life, optional LTE connectivity, WQHD (2,560 x 1,440) display resolution, and a touch-screen option -- while weighing just 2.49 pounds.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be available in January with a starting price of $1,709.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Now in its third generation, the new X1 Yogal also will support Dolby Vision HDR for improved color and brightness (up to 500 nits) on its WQHD (2,560 x 1,440) IPS display. Meanwhile, the new X1 Yoga adds eighth-generation Intel Core processors and offers battery life of up to 15 hours. And like the X1 Carbon, the new X1 Yoga offers better microphones and optional LTE connectivity. In addition, as a convertible touch-screen laptop, the X1 Yoga offers an integrated ThinkPad Pen Pro and a retractable keyboard.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga will be available in January with a starting price of $1,889.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet

At CES 2018, Lenovo is unveiling a new form factor for its Surface Pro 2-in-1 rival, the ThinkPad X1 Tablet. The third-gen X1 Tablet has been redesigned to have a 13-inch display, compared with the 12-inch display of the previous version. The IPS display will offer 3K (3,000 x 2,000) resolution and include Gorilla Glass for durability. The new X1 Tablet will also feature eighth-gen Intel Core processors, optional LTE connectivity, support for the optional Lenovo Pen Pro, and up to 9.5 hours of battery life -- as well as a detachable thin keyboard. One other notable change with the new X1 Tablet: Lenovo is phasing out the option to attach modules for additional functionality, such as a projector or battery life extender.

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet will be available in March with a starting price of $1,599.

Lenovo Miix 630

As rumored, Lenovo is launching its first Windows device running an ARM processor at CES 2018 -- the Miix 630 tablet. The 12.3-inch tablet uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, which brings advantages around extending battery life (the tablet will get up to 20 hours on a charge) and enabling LTE connectivity at fast speeds. The Miix 630 runs Windows 10 S out of the box, although free upgrades to Windows 10 Pro are being offered. In addition, the tablet comes with a detachable backlit keyboard and the Lenovo Pen.

The Lenovo Miix 630 will be available in April with a starting price of $799.99.

Lenovo Smart Display

During CES last year, Lenovo debuted a voice-controlled smart speaker, the Smart Assistant, powered by Amazon's Alexa. This year, Lenovo is going with the Google Assistant in its launch of a new smart device, dubbed the Lenovo Smart Display, which aims to rival Amazon's Echo Show. The device enables voice interaction with the Google Assistant for a variety of tasks -- such as getting the latest weather, traffic or news -- while allowing for touch interaction as well. The Smart Display also enables video calls along with viewing YouTube videos and other content. Lenovo is offering the Smart Display in two sizes: 8-inch (with HD resolution) and 10.1-inch (with FHD resolution).

The Lenovo Smart Display 8 has a starting price of $199.99 and the Lenovo Smart Display 10 has a starting price of $249.99. Both will be available in July.

Lenovo ThinkVision X1

Lenovo also is using CES 2018 to launch an updated monitor, with the second-generation ThinkVision X1. The 27-inch IPS monitor features UHD (3,840 x 2,160) resolution and a minimal bezel around the display, along with an ultra-slim profile (0.19 of an inch thick). In addition, the new ThinkVision X1 includes a USB-C port in addition to DisplayPort and HDMI, as well as a webcam system with dual-array microphones that automatically raises and lowers as needed.

The new Lenovo ThinkVision X1 will be available in January with a starting price of $799.
