30 Hot Products And Technologies At CES 2019

Blast Off

Each year, the Las Vegas tech extravaganza known as CES sets the tone for the coming 12 months of gadget trends and innovation—and we expect CES 2019 to be no different. Set to kick off next week, CES 2019 will serve up hot products and technologies from thousands of vendors—ranging from products that are just hitting the market now, to bleeding-edge innovations not quite ready for prime time. CES 2019 starts with two days of press conferences on Sunday and Monday (Jan. 6-7), followed by showcases and demos from Tuesday through Friday (Jan. 8-11) that will draw attendance of more than 180,000. CES 2019 vendors will present their latest products and technologies across categories including IoT, robotics, personal computing, mobility, transportation and more.

Since CES is synonymous with information overload, we've rounded up 30 products that are poised to make a splash next week in Las Vegas — from major vendors such as Samsung, LG and AMD, down to some smaller rising stars of the tech industry.

What follows are 30 hot products and technologies at CES 2019.

Lenovo Yoga Book C930

Lenovo's original Yoga Book consisted of a 10-inch tablet display attached to a secondary surface—which could be used either as a touch keyboard or secondary touch surface for writing or drawing with a digital pen. With the Yoga Book C930, set for showcasing at CES 2019, Lenovo is taking the concept further by going dual-display with the device. That means that along with a 10-inch QHD primary display, the secondary FHD display on the new Yoga Book can serve as an e-ink screen for drawing, an e-reader or a keyboard (Lenovo says typing productivity has increased by 22 percent with this model). The Yoga Book C930 also offers 13 hours of e-reading or eight hours of general use, along with strong portability (a weight of 1.71 pounds and thickness of 0.39 of an inch).

Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Stand 10W

Among the countless smartphone accessories that will be showcased at CES 2019, Belkin's Boost Up Wireless Charging Stand is likely to be one of the coolest. Capable of charging Qi-enabled smartphones such as iPhones from 2017-2018 and Samsung Galaxy phones, the Boost Up charging stand offers 10 watts of charging power—enabling faster charging than many prior wireless chargers (which only offered 7.5 watts). The Boost Up stand also offers an appealing design, and the stand keeps the phone in place while it's charging (so it doesn't accidentally lose contact with the charging pad). It's also great that phones can be used either vertically or horizontally with the stand—useful for watching videos on the phone while still letting it charge.

HP EliteBook x360 1040

Among the hot laptops at CES 2019 will be HP's EliteBook x360 1040, a business convertible with a stylish design and leading PC security capabilities. Thanks to its slimmed-down bezels around the display, the EliteBook x360 1040 is a 14-inch notebook that fits on a typical 13-inch chassis. Resolution options for the convertible touch screen include FHD or 4K/UHD. For security, the laptop has an option for the second-generation integrated privacy screen, Sure View. Other key security features include Sure Recover, which allows an image to be restored even without internet connectivity, and the fourth generation of HP's self-healing BIOS technology, Sure Start. Meanwhile, the EliteBook x360 1040 G5 is available with optional 4G LTE connectivity, so that the notebook can serve as an "always connected" device for users.

LG V40 ThinQ

LG is using CES 2019 to showcase its newest V series smartphone, the V40 ThinQ—and this time, the phone comes with a whopping five cameras. The phone is the first to pull off the five-camera feat, with three rear cameras and two front cameras for enhanced photos and a wider range of photo-taking options. For instance, the V40 ThinQ enables users to capture three photos at once – standard, telephoto zoom and super wide-angle. LG's V40 ThinQ also features a 6.4-inch QHD+ display, improved audio (including from a bass-heavy Boombox Speaker) and the Google Assistant built in.

LG UltraWide Monitor

LG is going to have a busy CES 2019, with its other products on showcase including the new UltraWide Monitor 49WL95. Aimed at enabling strong productivity, the monitor offers a 49-inch display that is curved, and features a 32:9 aspect ratio. The UltraWide Monitor 49WL95 also offers sharp picture quality for its IPS screen, with resolution of 5,120 x 1,440—which LG notes is equal to put two 27-inch QHD displays side by side. The monitor also includes USB-C ports for data transfer and charging devices (including laptops).

iRobot Roomba i7+

Launched in September, iRobot's new Roomba i7+ robotic vacuum cleaner is capable of emptying itself automatically after cleaning a home's floors. The Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal feature empties its dustbin into the "Clean Base" hub (which doubles as a charging station for the robot)—and the Clean Base itself can hold 30 bins of dirt. That means, according to iRobot, that buyers can "forget about vacuuming for weeks at a time" with the new Roomba i7+. The robotic vacuum also learns the floor plan of a house on its own and can be directed to clean a certain room by voice command.

Netgear Orbi Voice

Why should your mesh Wi-Fi system and smart speaker be two separate devices? Netgear has taken an inventive approach by combining the two with Orbi Voice, which offers both a router and a satellite unit that doubles as a Wi-Fi extender and smart speaker with Amazon Alexa built in. The system, which will be among Netgear's showcased products at CES 2019, promises Wi-Fi of up to 3 Gbps with coverage of up to 4,500 square feet. The device doesn't skimp on audio quality, either—the Orbi Voice features premium Harman Kardon speakers, with a 3.5-inch front-facing woofer and 1-inch tweeter.

WiTricity Wireless Charging

While wireless charging through the direct-contact Qi standard has taken off in the realm of smartphones, transmitting wireless electricity over a distance is still far from mainstream. However, at CES 2019, a pioneer in the category, WiTricity, will be demonstrating a promising application for wireless power over distance: charging electric vehicles. WiTricity will debut its wireless Vehicle-to-Grid energy management system at CES with carmaker Honda, showing off a system that can charge an electric vehicle when parked over a wireless charging ground pad.

Zyxel LTE CBRS Outdoor Router

At CES 2019, networking veteran Zyxel Communications will unveil a high-speed LTE-A router for outdoor uses leveraging the 3.5 GHz CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) band. Zyxel says that its LTE7480 LTE-A Pro Outdoor Router offers high-speed connectivity—with downlink data rates of up to 573 Mbps—along with high-gain, 4x4 MIMO antennas. The router also promises easy deployment and management by supporting bridge and router functions and removing the need for a separate power source thanks to using 802.3at PoE.

Dell UltraSharp 27 USB-C Monitor

Among Dell's hottest products on showcase at CES 2019 will be the UltraSharp 27 USB-C Monitor U2719DC, a 27-inch monitor with impressive image quality. The display features QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution—provide nearly twice the picture details of an FHD monitor—with precise hues thanks to 99 percent sRGB coverage. The display itself is thin, as well, measuring just 6.5mm, while the monitor's base is 29 percent smaller than a predecessor monitor, according to Dell. The UltraSharp 27 monitor also includes USB-C connectivity for connecting to laptops and other devices, and comes packaged with a USB-C cable, too.

Pico Goblin 2

At CES last year, we enjoyed trying out the Pico Neo, a high-end virtual-reality headset that offers free movement in all directions (i.e., six degrees of freedom) as a result of not needing external wires or smartphones to power it. For CES 2019, the Pico G2 headset will be among the hot showcases in the VR category. Available now for businesses, the Pico Goblin 2 is also an "all in one" VR headset that doesn't require external wires or a smartphone. Compared to the original Goblin, the Goblin 2 offers brighter picture quality and a 25 percent better display, with its 3K LCD display (615 pixels per inch). The device also offers a refresh rate of 90Hz and weighs 0.59 of a pound, making it 40 percent lighter than the original Pico Goblin.

Walabot HOME

At CES 2019, Vayyar Imaging will be showcasing its new fall detection device for the smart home, the Walabot HOME. Rather than using cameras to detect falls, the Walabot HOME uses sensors for improved privacy. The device, which can be hung on a wall, monitors for falls and if one occurs, it automatically alerts an emergency contact. The Walabot HOME also does not require that occupants wear a bracelet or pendant to track falls.

Samsung Lifestyle TVs

While Samsung has been making major strides to differentiate its Galaxy smartphone line over the past year, the company will use CES 2019 to show that it is innovating just as fast in the lifestyle TV category. Samsung plans to showcase "The Frame" and "The Serif TV" at CES, both of which are designed to blend naturally into the home space. The TVs—which won't sacrifice picture quality, with QLED displays—both offer unique features for the home. For instance, when The Frame is not being used as a TV, it goes into "Art Mode" and displays images of artwork. Meanwhile, The Serif TV is designed so that users can display it however they like—by standing the TV on legs on the floor, or placing on a shelf or on furniture.

Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm

First Alert will use CES 2019 to show off the second-generation model of its Onelink Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm, which just launched in December. The new Smart Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm comes in both hardwired and battery-powered versions. Importantly, it notifies users of smoke and carbon monoxide emergencies using voice alerts as well as with alerts sent to smartphones. The device can be voice controlled using Amazon Alexa devices as well as Apple HomeKit.

Engenius MESHdot Kit

EnGenius Technologies plans to use CES 2019 to debut its new Wi-Fi mesh network bundle, MESHdot Kit. The system includes the EMR3500 wireless mesh router and a compact-sized AC1300 mesh node, the MESHdot. The products, powered by Qualcomm processors, offer "spotless" Wi-Fi signal that is also affordable, according to Engenius. Additionally, the MESHdot Kit offers simple setup with the new EnMesh app, which is available on Android and iOS devices.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX

With 32 cores and 64 threads, AMD calls its second-generation Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX CPU the "world's most powerful desktop processor." Threadripper is AMD's premium consumer brand of Ryzen CPUs, designed for high-end workloads and performance-demanding apps. Based on AMD's 12-nanometer Zen+ architecture, the Threadripper 2990WX comes with a base clock speed of 3GHz and a turbo boost speed of 4.2GHz. The monster processor also comes with the AMD Ryzen Master Utility tool for simple overclocking features and AMD SenseMI Technology for machine learning capabilities.

Airthings Wave Plus

Wave Plus is a battery-operated indoor air quality device from Airthings that comes with sensors for detecting, temperature, air pressure, humidity and three kinds of indoor air pollutants: carbon dioxide, Radon and volatile organic compounds. With a wave of the hand, the device will provide a visual indicated of overall air quality levels. The Wave Plus sends air quality data to a free mobile app and the Airthings Dashboard for alerts and advanced analytics. The device, which connects with the Airthings Hub ecosystem, has a battery life of roughly 16 months.

Atari Pong Table

The Atari Pong Table is a mechanical version of the classic 1970s video game Pong that fits within a table cabinet. The cabinet is available in three styles: coffee table, cocktail table and arcade table, with the latter supporting coin-op play. The cabinet comes with a Bluetooth speaker, an LED display, four USB charging ports and side covers that hide the control panels.

BMW Parking Place Assistant

As part of BMW's Intelligent Personal Assistant platform, the Parking Place Assistant helps drivers figure out the best place to park. Using BMW's dashboard display, the assistant provides suggestions for vacant spaces at parking garages and on the street and then provides navigation instructions on how to best get there. The assistant also allows drivers to pay for parking without cash using the assistant's ParkNow feature.

Bosch Mirror Camera System for Heavy Commercial Vehicles

Bosch is releasing a new digital mirror camera system in 2019 that is designed to replace the two large mirrors outside of the cab of heavy commercial vehicles. The digital mirror camera system provides two large screens in the cab's interior, reducing the drag caused by exterior mirrors and cutting fuel consumption as a result. The system's high-resolution displays adjust the view in real-time based on the driving situation: long view on highways, large-angle view on city roads and high-contrast view at nights. The system, which can be retrofitted in existing truck fleets, uses four ultra-wide-angle cameras that provide a 360-degree view around the vehicle.

Caduceus Smart Surgical Glasses

The Caduceus smart surgical glasses use mixed reality technology to assist surgeons during operations. The glasses allow surgeons to see through a patient's body and view 3D models of the vascular and nerve systems, as well as the trajectory of surgical instruments. The system is made by Taiwan Main Orthopaedics Biotechnology Co.

Cyberfishing Smart Fishing Rod Sensor

The Cyberfishing Smart Rod Sensor is an attachment for fishing rods helps users figure out the best fishing spots by tracking the location of their top catches. The sensor also keeps track of environmental conditions, such as temperature, precipitation and pressure. Cyberfishing comes with a mobile app that allows users to add additional information about their catches, such as species, tackle and lure. Combined, the sensor and app are designed to help users plan more effective fishing trips.

I-THERMIC Intelligent Thermal Mid-Layer

The I-THERMIC is a mid-layer jacket that provides winter athletes the warmth without the need for wearing bulky clothing. Developed in partnership by Odlo, Clim8 and Twinery, the I-THERMIC's intelligent thermal technology uses a smart algorithm to distribute the correct amount of heat across the jacket according to the user's skin condition and activity. This allows the jacket to provide heat when the user is inactive and adjust when the user becomes active.

Laïka Smart Dog Companion

Laïka is a home robot that is designed to monitor and interact with a dog when the owner is away. Equipped with three wheels, an HD camera, a microphone and speakers, the robot can broadcast live video of the dog while the owner remotely controls the device. The robot, which also has an autonomous mode, can dispense treats, send alerts when the dog's barking gets too loud and allow the users to remotely speak to the dog.

BSS2LPBC License Plate Bar Blind Spot Detector

The BSS2LPBC is a device that helps drivers detect vehicles entering their blind spots. The device attaches to the rear license plate and uses microwave radar technology to detect incoming vehicles — but only when the operator's vehicle is driving 20 MPH or higher to prevent potential fault alerts. When the device detects a vehicle entering a blind spot, a small microphone alerts the driver. The device also comes with an HD camera that can provide a rear-view for the driver.

MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio

MSI's Gaming X Trio GPU is based on the top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics technology from Nvidia. The RTX 2080 Ti is among Nvidia's first graphics cards that are based on the company's next-generation Turing GPU architecture, which enables real-time ray tracing in GPUs for the first time to provide life-life lighting, reflections and shadows. The graphics card comes with 11GB of GDDR6 memory, a turbo clock speed of 1755 MHz and a memory clock speed of 14 Gbps.

Mui by Mui Lab

The Mui is a smart home display that is disguised as a 14-by-2-inch board of wood that hangs on the wall. With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and a capacitive touch panel, the Mui supports a variety of applications, including the ability to display text messages, weather information and time, as well as play voice recordings and control light dimmers.

Nexkey Core

Nexkey Core is a smartphone-connected device that can turn any lock into a smart lock, including deadbolts, levers, padlocks and cams. The Core can be installed within minutes and enable users to open locks with the Nexkey smartphone app. Nexkey provides its own digital key management system, allowing administrators to issue new digital keys with time restrictions if needed. The Wi-Fi connected device comes with a companion app for Android and iOS that allows to unlock the box and receive notifications for when packages are delivered. The device's security features include a motion-activated camera, a built-in car alarm and a motion sensor. With a body that is made of industrial-grade plastic, the device is made to withstand the force of blunt objects, and it also comes with the ability to be secured to the ground.

Woolf Moto

The Woolf Moto is a connected wristband device that helps motorcycle drivers avoid speeding fines by alerting them when they're approaching speed cameras, traffic light cameras and other kinds of speed control devices. The device syncs with a companion smartphone app that contains an updated database of speed control devices in more than 70 countries.
