6 Hot New Intel Security Products From Focus 16 Event
Intel Security Looks Ahead
Last year, Intel Security rolled out a new strategy to overhaul and focus its portfolio on protection, detection and remediation offerings. Now, at this year's Focus 16 event in Las Vegas, the company is rolling out a new set of offerings that are "making good on the promise" of the year before, said Brian Dye (pictured), corporate vice president of global products.
While the underlying technologies are also getting upgrades, the new offerings released at the event emphasize integration, bringing together packages of Intel Security offerings that are fully integrated down to the engineering and workflow levels. The new set of integrated offerings highlights the focus and simplicity that Intel Security is looking to drive in its portfolio, according to Dye, and provides partners with an easier route to market and a way to provide more value to customers. These new offerings also will lay the groundwork for Intel Security's strategy and road map going forward as it becomes an independent company, Dye said.
Take a look at the new offerings coming out of Focus 16 this year.
Dynamic Endpoint
Dynamic Endpoint brings together traditional endpoint security offerings with next-generation endpoint security into a single solution, Dye said. The offering is delivered as part of the company's McAfee Endpoint Security 10.5 and McAfee Active Response 2.0 software. Features of the endpoint security offering include behavioral analytics, Real Protect (formerly Raptor) pre- and post-execution technology, advanced threat protection, Dynamic Application Containment anti-ransomware technology, and endpoint detection and response. Dye said this offering is a step above other next-generation endpoint technologies, such as Carbon Black and Tanium, because it converges multiple endpoint offerings into a single offering, tied into the Intel Security SIEM offering. The other companies in the space are just "features," he said.
Pervasive Data Protection
As data protection gains steam in the security space, Intel Security has rolled out a converged offering for partners called Pervasive Data Protection that brings together CASB through McAfee Cloud Data Protection, McAfee DLP for Mobile Email 10.0 software, encryption, and McAfee Web Gateway Cloud Service into a single offering. It is a fully Software-as-a-Service offering, which Dye said is important as more companies look to purchase security-as-a-service offerings. Pervasive Data Protection is generally available now, except for the CASB offering, which Dye said is still in beta.
Data Center And Cloud Defense
Intel Security is looking to provide a "single view of data center security" across data center, public and private cloud environments with its new Data Center and Cloud Defense offering, Dye said. The offering brings together server security, network security and threat intelligence for a more comprehensive offering that provides visibility and control across a company's entire environment, Dye said. The offering then integrates for orchestration purposes with McAfee Management for Optimized Virtual Environments Anti-Virus (MOVE AV), McAfee Virtual Network Security Platform (vNSP), McAfee Advanced Threat Defense, McAfee Threat Intelligence Exchange, VMware NSX and OpenStack. It is delivered through the McAfee Server Security Suite 4.5 and McAfee Virtual Network Security Platform (vNSP) 8.3.
Intelligent Security Operations
Intelligent Security Operations brings together a traditional SIEM offering with sandboxing, threat intelligence, cloud security, and more for better orchestration and monitoring capabilities. The benefit of a converged offering n in this area, Dye said, is that it drives up scalability and allows for better threat defense and remediation capabilities. For example, Dye said using the offering, partners and customers can take threats detected on the endpoint offering, automatically send it to a sandbox, and then send updates through the ecosystem to protect against further incidents. The offering can also be expanded with the McAfee Cloud Threat Detection, McAfee Advanced Threat Defense appliance, McAfee Enterprise Security Manager, and incident response services.
New DXL Integrations
Intel Security is continuing to expand its DXL platform, Dye said, adding four more technology integration partners to the Innovation Alliance. The new partners include Check Point Software Technologies, Huawei, Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, and MobileIron. Intel Security also said it will be open-sourcing its DXL client protocol, a move the company is calling the OpenDXL Initiative. To facilitate this shift, Intel Security will roll out an open-source strategy and a beta release of a new software development kit for DXL, the company said.
"We feel that the industry desperately needs this. We clearly have a significant head start, but in order for this to get adopted we know others don't want to be beholden to us. … We think it's the right thing to do for the industry," Dye said.
Managed Services
Intel Security and Atos said at the Focus 16 event that the two had teamed up for a partnership around managed security services. Under the partnership, digital services provider Atos will deliver the full McAfee Threat Defense Lifecycle offering as a managed service, available in the cloud, hybrid or on premise. The offering will include the McAfee Enterprise Security Manager, McAfee Endpoint Security, McAfee Threat Intelligence Exchange, McAfee Advanced Threat Defense, McAfee Active Response and McAfee Data Exchange Layer. Atos will bring its own strength in big data and analytics to the combined offering, which it said will allow for better automation and orchestration capabilities.
"This kind of marriage of big data and security is groundbreaking for Intel Security. … As concerns about advanced attacks increase faster than availability of skilled cybersecurity resources or security operations budgets, fast-responding, affordable security services are in demand now more than ever," Richard Steranka, head of global channel operations, Intel Security, said in a statement.
