'Fired Up' VMware CEO Gelsinger: NSX Virtual Cloud Network Is 'The Future For Networking'
'Fired Up'
Watch out networking world, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger says its new NSX-based Virtual Cloud Network is going to revolutionize the corporate network by taking its software-defined networking technology across every public and private cloud. With the backing and integration of Dell Technologies broad portfolio, the competition doesn't stand a chance, said Gelsinger in his keynote address in front of thousands of channel partners and customers at Dell Technologies World 2018 in Las Vegas this week.
"You know, a short 38-year career in technology and I'll tell you -- I have never been as fired up as I am now," said Gelsinger. "There is no question that VMware and Dell are better together." Here are the most significant statements Gelsinger made during his keynote about the new Virtual Cloud Network.
Being Part Of Dell Technologies Makes 'Every Aspect' Better
Each piece of this is being done in partnership with the Dell Technologies product family. Dell and their network are combining and selling that as integrated validated designs with NSX Data Center. Dell hardware is the solution that we're bringing into the branch. SecureWorks is operationalizing and offering AppDefense as a service. With Virtustream, they're taking advantage of NSX Cloud, as well as on the path to deliver NSX Hybrid Connect services. Every aspect of our strategy and partnership is made better as a part of the Dell Technologies family.
VMware's 'Vision For The Future'
We've reached an inflection point where, 'Do I build a data center network to address expansion and reaching to the edge? Or, do I build a flexible, programmable cloud network to drive future innovation?' Of course the answer is, 'I need to do both.' In bringing those two worlds together -- it's programmable and flexible to support the needs of the digital business and it's context-aware using AI and machine learning, built for infinite scale, but no longer limited by box or boundaries. … Above all, a software-driven world enables consistency and elasticity. This is what we call the Virtual Cloud Network. This is the VMware vision for the future for networking: a ubiquitous software layer from the data center to cloud to edge -- empowering you to connect and secure data regardless of where they might reside; embedded security directly into the platform; and enabling control and automation.
NSX SD-WAN 'Changes' Networking 'In A Dramatic Way'
VeloCloud has emerged as the clear leader in software-defined WAN -- a transformational approach to simplify branch and office networking, and to optimize apps and performance. One-third of your IT budget is being consumed in communications costs, and of that, a huge portion is going toward [fixing] networks like MPLS. SD-WAN changes that in a dramatic way. It gives a huge opportunity to save you money and improve user experience, refactor what's in the branch, and allow you to improve security. All of these come together in a dramatic opportunity to use SD-WAN to transform your communications and your branch environments.
Microsoft Azure Is 'Embracing It'
Today Azure and the native NSX capabilities are available for the Azure platform as well. [Microsoft] is embracing it and seeing the value of this consistent networking environment. We're thrilled to have Azure cloud as our next partner in our NSX Virtual Cloud network journey.
'Putting All These Pieces Together'
The Virtual Cloud Network enables these three things: a consistent cloud networking fabric, security that is architected in, and all of it delivered in software. Because it's in software, its inherently programmable and scalable.
We're bringing capabilities like NSX Hybrid Connect -- this ability to build a tunnel and migrate and truly operate between cloud worlds in a hybrid fashion. [We're] bringing SD-WAN by VeloCloud into the marketplace and putting all of this together into a consistent architecture. Putting all these pieces together is the Virtual Cloud Network. VMware NSX -- expanding what we're doing in the data center into the branch and into the edge. We're bringing in intrinsic security and combining that with this ability to connect two clouds natively with NSX cloud, and building this hybrid layer through NSX Hybrid Connect [which] provides network insights as well as management and automation.
'VMware And Dell Are Better Together'
Technology is breaking into every business and every aspect. You know, a short 38-year career in technology and I'll tell you -- I have never been as fired up as I am now. We are impacting businesses, humanity, across the globe as never before. This is our opportunity. There's never been a better time to work in technology. Our commitment to you is simply put, we want to help you realize what's possible. And there is no question that VMware and Dell are better together. We want to drive your company's business transformation. We want to partner with you as never before and, ultimately, help you embrace this future world and realize what's possible.
